Welcoming Faces

For a new sixth or seventh grader, life at a middle school can be a frightening prospect. But the Cupertino Union School District is taking steps to quell these fears.

This year, all four middle schools are implementing WEB–Welcome Every Body–an orientation program that helps students transition and acclimate themselves from elementary school to the middle school environment. 

Iris Tien, 10, is in the hot seat of the game in which students must quickly match the hand movements she decides to do. Whoever is slow in reacting must go into the middle of the circle.
